Long-Lasting and Waterproof Lube

Long-lasting lube stays slippery longer, including silicone, hybrids and thick gels that handle water.

What makes long-lasting lube last?

Longevity comes down to base. Silicone does not absorb or evaporate, so it keeps its slip for far longer, stays slippery in the shower and does not dry out like water. Hybrids add some silicone to a water base, and thick water-based gels can help too, though water-based formulas still thin out and need a refresh.

Many silicone and hybrid products make the long-lasting claim, including Überlube, Wet and SKYN All Night Long. SKYN also sells a water-based option it says lasts like silicone. Remember silicone is for non-silicone toys only, and it can make the tub slippery.

Long-lasting & shower: questions

What lasts longest, silicone or water-based?

Silicone, because it does not absorb or evaporate. Some water-based gels are marketed as long-lasting but need more reapplying.

Can I use water-based lube in the shower?

It washes away quickly in running water. Silicone or a hybrid holds up better.

Is long-lasting lube safe with condoms?

Silicone and water-based formulas are generally compatible with latex condoms. Check the label.

How do I clean silicone lube off?

Use warm water and soap on skin, and pre-treat fabric with dish soap before washing.

What is the best long-lasting lube?

Silicone lube generally lasts longest and is waterproof, while hybrids and thick water-based gels are a lighter alternative. Remember silicone is for non-silicone toys only.
